The threshold check is free and always will be. It needs no account, nothing is uploaded, and it answers the question that actually matters when you first arrive: whether you have a problem at all. Every one of the 76 rules behind it is free to read too, with the authority that publishes it linked from each page.
What the subscription buys is the running of it: every processor reconciled into one ledger so a threshold cannot be crossed in the gap between two of them, a daily scan, the alert before you cross, the date you actually crossed, and the registration pack that turns “you owe one” into a form you can file. Thirty days of that without a card, then $120 a year or $12 a month. No per-return fee, and no cut of your transactions.
What it does not do, before you find out the hard way
- Calculate the tax rate at your checkout. We hold state base rates only, and label them as floors wherever they appear.
- File a return. Not in any jurisdiction, and not through a partner.
- Register you anywhere. You get the authority, the steps and your details prefilled; you file it.
- Move money or remit anything to a tax authority.
- Store or validate exemption and resale certificates.
- Validate addresses or resolve them to a local tax district.
It tells you where you stand and proves how it got there. Everything above is a different job, and the honest version of this product is the one that says so before taking your card. What we know to be thin or missing in the data itself is published at /data.
